Seasonal to Decadal Climate Prediction: Filling the Gap between Weather Forecasts and Climate Projections

Vertical Tabs

Description

Session Description:

Decadal climate prediction is a relatively new and rapidly evolving field that has many societal applications. Our predictions of future climate conditions of the Earth have traditionally focused on global-scale changes over long time-periods, such as hundreds of years. These long-term predictions are not of much use for policy makers and resource managers trying to make decisions about near-term changes in a specific locale. Decadal climate prediction attempts to address this by forecasting seasonal-to-decadal scale changes in regional conditions. This talk will give an overview of this challenging field and the future direction that the global scientific community is pursuing.

Workshop Topic (s):
  • Climate Variability and Change (including Climate Modeling)
